Reporter for the Associated Press | January 2013 – April 2013
Legislative relief reporter for the Associated Press in Indianapolis. Wrote about state government, education and general news. Covered news from all over the state and wrote breaking news as well as longer features. Articles appeared in news outlets across the country.

Reporting intern for The Columbus Dispatch | June 2012 – December 2012
I started off as a reporting intern on the metro desk from June to August — first covering science, health and the environment and then cops and courts. My internship was extended to December, and I am now a fellow with the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism’s Statehouse News Bureau writing for the public affairs team at the Dispatch.

Reporting intern for the Scripps Howard Foundation Wire | September 2011 – December 2011
Wrote about politics for the Scripps Howard Foundation Wire as a part of the Scripps Howard News Service’s Semester in Washington program. Covered Congressional hearings and Supreme Court cases, and articles were picked up by various newspapers across the country. Completed an investigative project about government transparency and open records requests, the findings of which were featured on Poynter.org.

Real estate reporting intern for the New York Observer | June 2011 – August 2011
Wrote news items, blog posts and features about real estate for the Observer‘s website as well as the print editions of the New York Observer, a weekly newspaper in New York City. Assembled slideshows and link lists for the website daily. Wrote a weekly feature called “Your Open House,” which explored trends in New York City real estate.

Reporter for The Post | January 2010 – June 2012
Produced two to six articles per week for an independent, student-run daily newspaper in Athens, Ohio. Covered the university budget, administration, student affairs and breaking news. Shot and edited video, live-tweeted and moderated live blogs for meetings and events. Completed an investigative project in spring 2012 about code enforcement and the state of rental housing in Athens.

Reporting intern for Record Publishing Company | June 2010 – August 2010
Produced human interest and news articles every week for eight weekly newspapers in the Akron/Cleveland area, formatted community announcements using MediaSpan’s NewsEditPro software.

Copy editor for The Post | September 2009 – June 2010
Edited articles for grammatical and stylistic errors; wrote headlines; worked with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop; uploaded articles and images to The Post‘s website.

Reporter for Speakeasy magazine | September 2008 – March 2009
Produced one story per week about cultural events around Athens and on the Ohio University campus for Speakeasy, an online, student-run magazine in Athens, Ohio.
